Exhibit Hours >>Art Education Major
The art education major at ORU is offered in cooperation with the ORU College of Education. In the ARTE program students participate in both art and education courses that provide the preparation for entry into the education profession at the K-12 level. Instruction includes artistic, educational and design skills demanded by contemporary society and technology, while maintaining a respect for the value of tradition. Additionally, a large network of successful alumni provides an opportunity to enhance education through experiences gained in the professional environment. Upon completion of the ARTE program students are eligible to receive their license to teach in the state of Oklahoma.
Graphic Design Major
The philosophy of the design program is to create leaders in the design community who can originate, develop and produce a wide range of messages in any media. The program strives to create functional, usable and aesthetically appropriate solutions to the increasingly complex design problems encountered in society. While production skills are essential, especially for entry-level designers, the ability to manage and continually improve skill sets regardless of the technological future will allow individuals the best opportunity for advancement in the profession.
Studio Art Major
The Art Department at ORU recognizes art is an expression of an individual's beliefs and endeavors to nurture each student's creativity, ability and call to be a Christian artist. Students receive a firm foundation blending creative experiences with a critical knowledge of art past and present. Students selecting the studio arts program study under a faculty composed of professional working artists with numerous works of art on exhibit nationwide. The studio art major offers training in four disciplines—painting, ceramics, sculpture and printmaking. Students may adapt the major to help prepare them for an alternative teaching certification.
