Graphic Design Major

Bachelor of Science Degree

The graphic design program takes a traditional Bauhaus approach to subject matter. Students begin with basic principles and historical overviews of visual art and design. As students progress, further specialization in design topics occupy upper division courses. Course subject matter includes typography, print publications, branding, logo design, digital photography, web design, motion design, animation and interactive/mobile applications. Students complete their education with client-based projects preparing them for future employment and simulating a contemporary studio environment. An internship requirement exposes students to the professional workplace.

The philosophy of the design program is to create leaders in the design community who can originate, develop and produce a wide range of messages in any media. The program strives to create functional, usable and aesthetically appropriate solutions to the increasingly complex design problems encountered in society. While production skills are essential, especially for entry-level designers, the ability to manage and continually improve skill sets regardless of the technological future will allow individuals the best opportunity for advancement in the profession.
